We've always had a soft spot for Commodore computers. Compact, economical, and robust for their day, they were ubiquitous throughout the 1980s. Unfortunately, the machine's glory days are long behind it, with little more than some gaming rigs and the tireless work of Ben Heck to keep the flag flying. But all that could change if Barry Altman has his way. As President and CEO of the newly minted Commodore USA, he's spent the better part of a year crawling through the arcane red tape necessary to get the rights to the Commodore name. And now? With any luck, later this year the company's monumental advertising campaign will have had its effect ("something like you've never seen in your life," as Altman described it to us on the phone this afternoon) and you'll be able to have your very own keyboard computer with the Commodore logo slapped on for good measure. Presumably based on the Cybernet ZPC-GX31, the exact configurations and pricing will all be spelled out soon enough. In the meantime, hit the source link to see for yourself. And please, guys -- make us a beige one, will ya?The Commodore name licensed again for a line of keyboard PCs originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 16 Mar 2010 18:29:00 EST. Gigabit 1000mbps wired speeds + 802.11n wireless technology = the ultimate router! The NETGEAR WNR854T RangeMax Next
Wireless-N Router Gigabit Edition lets you easily set up a wireless
network in your home so you can share a single internet connection
with everyone in your household at speeds up to 300 Mbps. You can
stream music and video, make internet phone calls, videoconference,
and surf the web, all at the same time. The WNR854T employs a web-based interface for configuration for compatibility with any computer with a web browser. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date. |
|
|
New Technology Means Blazing Speeds and
Backwards Compatibility If you still have computers that use 802.11g or 802.11b, don't fret as the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standards and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network. The WNR854T will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly. By using Gigabit Ethernet for the backend, you'll be certain that the router is receiving data at the highest possible speeds. The router also has four Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a wired connection that will give the fastest performance. Security Made Easy NETGEAR's Touchless WiFi Security makes it quick and easy to set up network security on a WiFi network by asking for a passphrase from the user. The WNR854T supports WiFi Protected Access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK), and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for 802.11b/g networks. Additionally, you can set security through MAC address authentication, allowing only authorized users onto the network. Features

| - | ===Tramel Technology=== | + | It came from your mom. In bed last night. lol |
| - | <!-- Note, this is not a typo it is meant to be "Tramel" and there is no "i". The name was spelt this way on purpose by Jack Tramiel in order to promote correct pronunciation of the name. --> | ||
| - | At [[Commodore International]] an argument involving Commodore's chairman (and largest shareholder) [[Irving Gould]] and Commodore founder [[Jack Tramiel]] ensued over Tramiel's desire for his sons to take more active executive roles within Commodore. The argument resulted in Tramiel's immediate departure from Commodore on January 13, 1984<ref>Christina Erskine. "History of Computers: Part 2" p.39 [[CU Amiga]], (September 1992)</ref>. | ||
| - | |||
| - | Tramiel immediately formed a [[holding company]], '''Tramel Technology, Ltd.''', and began to visit various US computer companies with the intention of purchasing a company. Tramiel visited Mindset (run by Roger Badersher, former head of Atari's Computer Division) and Amiga where Tramiel told Amiga staff that he was very interested in the chipset, but not the staff. Tramiel set his chief engineer — Shiraz Shivji — the task of developing a new low-cost, high-end computer system. The original design considered using the [[NS32032]], but in talks, [[National Semiconductor]] could not supply the chip in the numbers or price that the project required. In retrospect this proved to be fortunate as a prototype built on the NS32032 benchmarked slower than the 16/32-bit 68000. | ||
| - | |||
| - | The project, codenamed "RBP" for 'Rock Bottom Price', began to form between April and July 1984 into a design that was almost identical to the ST that eventually shipped. The design was a combination of custom chips and commonly available parts in a highly integrated single-board design, fully equipped with standard and custom ports. | ||
