People are still blowing out the cartridges and gaming on their old NESs, SNESs, SMSs, Genesises… Heck, I still rock an Atari 2600 and a Commodore 64… Who needs emulators?! More impressive, though, is that hobbyists are still developing for these outdated systems. So with all this gaming and developing going on, isn’t there anything to make the whole ordeal simpler? As I said – who needs emulators? Nobody when crazy enthusiasts come out with custom cartridges that let you load ROMs into memory v

Ah, the memories… Founded in 1982 by Jeff Minter, Llamasoft quickly established a reputation for producing games rich in originality, adrenaline-pumping action, quirky humour and digital ungulates.

Evoking memories of the Commodore 64 and the Atari, Nike have gone old skool in producing a wonderful new advert documenting the career of Patrice Evra. Apart from the obvious cool graphics and homage to platform games from times before the Playstation and Wii, we particularly like the Franck Ribery avatar who pops up in the international section of the video. Nike’s latest brilliant video, titled “The Game Is Never Over,” can be seen here . ( The Spoiler )

For Benjamin Heckendorn, console modder, who grew up using the Atari computer, building an Atari laptop was a “dream project”. He had already worked and completed 2 of them earlier. However, they were not exactly his ideal ones. He also built a Commodore 64 laptop earlier this year. But the Commodore could never be an [...]

After we retired the Atari, my brother bequeathed me his Commodore 64 and his collection of 5.25″ floppies. Few of the disks had proper labels. Here and there you could make out a word crummily penciled onto an aging sticker. I dimly understood that most of the set had been copied from copies of originals owned by my brother’s friends, but mostly, I just knew that they were mine now. Far too much of my childhood was spent methodically inserting floppy after floppy and uttering the magic words

With the new video gaming systems on the market, a lot of us still remember fondly where it all started. By this, we don’t mean the NES, but actually Atari and Commodore computers. These were the first home computers that didn’t take up too much space. Well, Ben Heck has modded one to become a laptop! Greetings, citizens of the internet! I am planning to attend the Emergency Chicagoland Commodore Convention, taking place September 26th. You can check out their website here . I’m going to bring my Atari 800 laptop (before it goes out to the customer) so hopefully I won’t get beat up too badly. I’m sure it will be fun for computer geeks of all backgrounds. So if you’re in the area why not check it later?

What we have here us the latest project from Ben Heck and is the Atari 800 laptop, which Ben says has been his dream projects for many years, and then back in 2006 he completed one, and then another and were all good machines but didn’t really capture the Atari sprit. So earlier in 2009 he completed a Commodore 64 laptop, but wasn’t basically a Commodore type of guy so returned his attention back to Atari and has now made a new Atari 800 laptop. Now said new Atari 800 laptop is completed and sport

Ben Heck has completed his latest project, and I think this one is one of the coolest one we have seen from Ben to date, the Atari 800 Laptop . Earlier this year I finished the long-gestating Commodore 64 laptop. It turned out great, and looked properly old. This left me conflicted however – I wasn’t a Commodore guy, but I had done a much better job on it than my beloved 800’s. This year that all changed! Someone requested I build them an Atari 800 laptop, and I decided to go

New Atari 800 laptop. Click here for super-sized, printable version. For many years an Atari 800 laptop was my “dream project”. It was the computer I grew up with and thus I have fond memories of it. Finally in 2006 I completed one. You can see it here . A few years later I did another by request . These were all well and good, but I didn’t feel I properly captured the spirit of the old machines. Earlier this year I finished the long-gestating Commodore 64 laptop. It turned out great,

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! It defies logic really that in this day and age retro video games can still hold appeal, even the generation that was brought up with Commodore 64 games and various Amiga, Atari & Armstrad games now use today super powerful consoles. So why do Vintage Video Games still have such mass market appeal? The type of games and systems that make us feel nostalgic vary from person to person, however amongst the aforement
